How to Read the Bible Easier

I’m sure you have seen Bibles where people highlight various verses that stand out to them. But what do the colors mean? Or are you just highlighting with any color by random?

Either way if you are intentionally highlighting with different colors that mean various things or just using random colors to highlight significant scriptures that stand out to you, both are great!

This post though, will give you tips on how you can take your Bible reading time a little deeper to help you gain more understanding.

Purpose of Color Coding

First, take a look at this color system pictured above, I created this to help guide my highlight use with more intention.

I realized that when I give the colors a meaning, I’m more conscious of what I’m reading, and personalizing which category it falls under for me personally. For instance, pink is my favorite color so I decided to highlight any favorite scriptures that really stand out to me for wisdom or help me remember how to love others better—I highlight with my favorite color. Therefore when I look back on certain scriptures I’ve highlighted I remember that I made the reference to love better or why it was a favorite of mine.

It’s okay to not always understand the Bible

It’s okay to not always understand the Bible. This is the perfect time to take your questions to God and ask for a deeper clarification that makes sense to you personally. Believe me, what you ask for, you will receive (Mark 11: 24) Often, when I’m confused & ask The Holy Spirit for clarification, The Holy Spirit does reveal to me clarity sometimes within minutes, sometimes a couple days later I’ll be in a situation when I suddenly understand what I read prior days ago. God delights in us wanting to understand the scriptures. Our desire to want to understand is a desire to want to know the essence of God wholeheartedly.

More on Color Coding

For yellow, anytime Christ is speaking directly, I chose to highlight in yellow where I feel the Lord is also prophesying to me personally. I choose to take Christ prophetic and apply that to my own life.

Lastly, the Bible gives many warnings and teachings about how to live righteously. Anytime the Bible references warnings on things to avoid or things to do, I highlight in blue. Also, anytime I read something that convicts my heart where I feel I need to improve or remember in my walk, I also use blue for convictions.

These are the colors I choose based on the highlighters I had, however feel to use your own colors of your choice for this same system!

  1. I love your color-coding system. If you saw my Bible, you’d see numerous colors, underlines and dates. It really does help us be more intentional in reading and studying. Bottom line is learning to know God better as we pursue that intimacy with him made available through Jesus. Thanks for visiting my blog!
