Proverbs 27:1 is quietly powerful. It reads:
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”

Reflection:

This verse is a gentle but firm reminder that tomorrow is not promised, so our confidence shouldn’t be placed in plans, outcomes, or even our own discipline—but in God alone. It invites us to live present, humble, and dependent, stewarding today faithfully instead of assuming we control what’s next. There’s wisdom here about slowing down, releasing anxiety over the future, and choosing obedience now rather than postponing faith, repentance, or purpose for “later.” In short: honor God today, because today is the only day you actually hold.

As an avid planner (and trained) girlie, this scripture is so important. On Wednesday, I had plans to create unit 6 test for my students. But instead, the pipe underneath my bathroom sink BURST 🫠 ooooooh & flooded my apartment 🤗🫣 so ya see? I had plans for my feet to be walking in my classroom but the Lord directed my feet to be home enduring a bursted pipe. 🫡

And all I could think of is how important it is to yield to God. Not our plans. Sure, be prepared and do whatever is necessary to eliminate stress. But remember your planner is not God. Your planner is there to help you navigate and breathe. It’s important to pause and recognize “I’m just preparing but God will confirm.”

I’m an advocate for paper planners. I believe they are so powerful. Writing out my plans is therapeutic. To take all the chaos, to-lists, and reminders replaying in my head, and dumping it all out on paper within my @jccmlblog planner is relief.

But even as a devoted planner girlie, I must yield to God. We can make our plans but truly it is the Lord who confirms those plans. Sometimes in my planner, plans go as written. But more times than not, I usually have to pivot. To a different day or different time. Or maybe even scratch it out all together.

When your plans don’t go as planned, I encourage you to still write out what God had planned. Write out what happened instead. Your planner is more than to-do lists. Your planner is a book documenting your days, surprises, weeks, months—write it all down. 🩷

When you look back, it’s nice to read where you’ve been and what God had planned for you in addition to your plans. 🩷🌸

My mom is like many women who struggles to use her

My mom is like many women who struggles to use her planner consistently.

It’s not that she doesn’t love her planner. It’s not that she doesn’t want to use it.

It’s the fact that she didn’t know how… she thought planning was black & white only. Meaning she thought there was only one way to plan in order to be successful at it.

This made her overwhelmed because she thought she was doing it “wrong”.

In our little coaching season, I told her okay, so you missed some days and didn’t write in your planner last week. It’s OK. You can “back plan”. Back planning is writing down the things you DID get to.

Don’t get so hung up on the fact that you didn’t use your planner that day. You’re still alive so that means you did do something. Write down how you felt that day. Write down what you did. Write down some things you’re proud of. Some things you worked through. Emotions you felt. So when you look back over your life, you can see how far you’ve really come after all.

The secret is making a system that works for you.

It’s so much to do in a day. It’s so easy to become overwhelmed. Yesterday, my co-worker shared how anxiety was rushing over her as she was dealing with a court-case. The only advice that I could think of was prayer. Prayer is the door to peace. Prayer is the door to surrender. Prayer is the only control we really over our anxiety & the unknown. Pray about it. And when you pray, really surrender. That’s all you can do. Whatever happens, trust that God is good. He is working for our good even if the end result isn’t what we wanted. Can you still believe that God can see what we can’t? He’s a loving God. 🩷
